The Institute for Peace Studies (IPS) is an independent, non-governmental institution with no political, ideological or religious affiliations. The only ideology it adopts is that of promoting peace and goodwill among the peoples of the world; a peace based on justice, dignity and human rights.

 IPS is an international body founded by the Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement, a foundation dedicated to fostering and disseminating the culture of peace, and developing the abilities of women and young people to establish the conditions for sustainable peace and human security.

 To further expand its role on the regional and international levels, IPS engages in strategic partnerships with regional and international institutions, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations involved in peace studies.

 Promoting the culture of peace, not only as an intellectual, ethical and moral principal or philosophy, but as a way of life, a civilized behavior for all nations and a frame of mind is a major objective of IPS. Through reaching out to the people, particularly women and children, the Institute seeks to educate and train core groups within the community to become principle actors in promoting a culture of peace on the local and regional levels. Keeping in mind that the values and principles of a culture of peace are universal, the Institute, nonetheless, strives to project an Egyptian vision of peace related to the experiences and historical heritage of the Egyptian people, and present a culturally specific model of peace studies which, in the long run, can be used to promote a culture of peace within the region.

 As the academic branch of the Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement, IPS follows the guidelines outlined in its initiation document and, consequently, focuses its research and training program on the six clusters of issues highlighted in its founding decree:

§  Law, ethics and human rights;

§  Conflict resolution and post-conflict areas;

§  Mediation and negotiation theory and practice;

§  Human Security and peace;

§  Promotion of a culture of peace;

§  Gender and Peace Building.
