H.E. Kjell Magne Bondevik is known as Norway's longest serving non-Socialist Prime Minister since World War II (17 October 1997 – 3 March 2000 and 19 October 2001 – 17 October 2005). Mr. Bondevik founded the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights in August 2006. The Center’s focus is related to three main areas: human rights, democracy and inter-religious and intercultural dialogue. It works through contact and dialogue with policy makers, organizations and key actors in Norway and internationally. Also in 2006, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan named Bondevik to serve as the new Special Humanitarian Envoy for the Horn of Africa.

The SMWIPM Peace Matters Lecture series engages inspirational speakers to stimulate public discussions on peace and human security issues. In addition, the lectures aim to encourage the active participation of civil society members in the promotion and advancement of the principles of the culture of peace.

“I am confident that the role women will play in peace stewardship will contribute to a new concept of global human security. I am sure that they will rally all their forces across borders, across cultural barriers of language and religion, in order to contribute to a better world”. Suzanne Mubarak, President and Founder.
