Strategy

A long-term commitment towards building sustainable peace goes beyond economic and political agreements. Peace must be embraced by each and every one of us, in our actions and beliefs. We need to construct the defences of peace in people's minds, as well as encourage attitudes that discourage the use of violence and render the course of warfare unacceptable. We need to build a Global Culture of Peace.

Working with children and youth represents an integral part of this effort. With their unique voice and imagination, young people have the potential to take-up fresh peace building initiatives and open new avenues of cooperation between communities and nations. With their exceptional creativity, they can help to give peace a face – one of hope, equality, dignity, freedom and justice for all. With their ability to mobilize support, they can truly turn a ripple of tolerance into an ocean of understanding. The Movement, therefore, strives to capture and harness all this positive potential for change by providing these young people with the tools, resources and the self-confidence that will enable them to achieve their full potential. This approach entails building their capacity to define peace for themselves and what it may bring to their lives. Moreover, it calls for the creation of well-defined channels through which they can voice their needs and promote their objectives, as well as a sustained effort to expand opportunities for them to participate fully in their societies.

Using a bottom-up approach, the Movement strives to create strong partnerships between its youth network members, governmental organizations, NGOs, the private sector and various international donors and partners. It also seeks to support and strengthen their peace work by creating platforms for dialogue and exchange, training and networking opportunities. In addition, it organizes workshops, practical trainings and mentoring services to give members the opportunity and confidence to sharpen their unique sets of skills, develop their own innovative tools and initiatives.
