 Who We Are?

The Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement is a non-profit non-governmental international association established in 2003.

The first of its kind in the Middle East, it was created to harness the energy and creativity of all segments of society in the realization of a vision of peace. A vision which is based on a spirit of solidarity between peoples, on shared values and a mutual understanding of their common destiny. It is strongly committed to strengthening the involvement of women in peace building initiatives by highlighting alternative perspectives, exploring various options and ensuring that all efforts are attuned to human needs.

 Our Focus

Forging Partnerships - working with relevant sectors of the global community to maximize the impact of peace building initiatives.

Capacity-Building - empowering women and youth to become successful peace builders.

Awareness Raising - promoting and mainstreaming the values of a culture of peace.

Enhancing Dialogue - providing a platform for communication and information sharing between individuals and groups working for peace, justice and human security.

Research and Publications - developing case study material that illustrate the achievements and challenges in achieving sustainable peace.

Supporting global efforts - for peace, reconciliation and reconstruction.

 Our Partners

We work with decision makers, academics, non-governmental agencies, the private sector, the media, scientists, artists, and society as a whole; as well as in close collaboration with the United Nations system, agencies and programs, and peace institutions from all over the world.
The Institute for Peace Studies recently founded, and hosted by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, acts as the intellectual arm of the Movement developing training and research programs designed to disseminate practical ideas for peace. It also focuses on exploring ways and means of expanding the role of women and the young generation in the process of peace building. In realizing its objectives, the Institute will engage in partnerships at the regional and international levels.
In collaboration with a network of non-governmental organizations, peace activists scholars and Nobel peace laureates, the Movement has launched a Global Coalition to address specific issues related to peace and security, namely promoting the role of women in building peace, combating the trafficking of women and children and preventing violence against women.
All groups and individuals interested in our work can join forces with us. We have a successfully growing number of members and friends of the Movement who volunteer to advocate and work on their areas of expertise in enhancing the mission and objectives of the Movement.

 Our Approach

The Movement works as a coalition-builder. It encourages the use of existing local entities as a means to channel resources for the empowerment of women, in addressing the root causes of insecurity and violence in their communities, and map out peace building efforts to be undertaken.
Sustainable ways for fostering a culture of tolerance, peace and security in families, communities and countries are readily explored. The Movement develops tailored programs and activities to realize its vision and implement its objectives at the national, regional and international levels. We build on existing initiatives through our mechanism of communication and coordination.

 Our Sources of Funding

The Movement benefits from generous donations, gifts and fundraising activities that cover the cost of its activities and programs.
